PARENTS: This activity can help your child identify their emotions AND their peers’ emotions. Identifying and labeling feelings is a valuable life skill that takes lots of practice! This activity can spark essential conversations that lead to a deeper understanding.
Materials: You do not need much to redo this activity at home. You will need paper plates (Styrofoam works, too), a sharpie, popsicle sticks, a pair of scissors, and tape. I recommend that you update the emotions every few weeks so that you give your child opportunities to learn new emotions.
Objective: Our objective today is to identify the emotions in this activity and think about what triggers emotions. In addition, we want to think of positive strategies that can help us cope with the emotion. Remember! Every emotion has it’s own unique physical reaction. At the end of this activity, I want you to walk away remembering that to have positive and healthy relationships with our classmates, we need to make sure we can read and react to emotions correctly.
